OUR MOTIVATION

Health is something we often take for granted until it strikes home to our own families.

In 2012 I lost one of the most important influences in my life. My older brother was more like an Uncle or Father to me. He died of a brain tumor at the age of 61; seen here holding his first grandchild just days before his passing.

He's hardly recognizable from the steroids and other medications the doctors are pounding him with. Watching his decline and passing, really made me question how we live and what is happening to us.

Steve worked on the same ranch I did, spraying chemicals on the fields and pastures with no protection and little regard for what those chemicals would do to us long term.

Even though you will find throughout my blog that the evidence points to chemicals not being the only source of carcinogens we bombard ourselves with...it definitely is a factor.

At the time of his passing I was working for one of the largest fertilizer/chemical suppliers in the United States. I witnessed huge commercial farms using millions of gallons of 24-d and other pesticides. As a licensed chemical applicator I had studied the mode of action of these chemicals and became very concerned at how extensively they were being applied.

24-d's mode of action is to make the cells of the plant outgrow the plants ability to sustain itself...cells out of control...and cancer is...?

With that motivation behind me I left the chemical company and started investigating more and more of how our food is processed.

Keep in mind, I am not a tie-die kind of person but have worked as a Licensed Chemical Applicator for over 14 years and have personally owned Yard Care Chemical companies. I've worked for many large Yard Care Chemical companies with over 20 years of experience.

However - I was also certified as a Master Gardner by the University of Idaho Extension office in October of 2006 and I am a Certified Arborist, so I guess I'm the odd ball that has been in both worlds of Organic thinking and Commercial Pest Control.

Being in both worlds opened my eyes to what I think you'll see is the reality behind Organic and Commercial food sources and how we need to educate ourselves on what really is "healthy" for our families and even our pets.

We all need to re-evaluate how we view the food we consume and that is the theme of this blog.
